I'm already into the second month of the latest class I'm taking, Lilla Roger's Make Art That Sells Assignment Bootcamp. Time flies!!! The first month's theme was cuckoo clocks, which was pretty funny considering I had just given myself a personal assignment the week before the class started with the exact theme by complete randomness. Anyway, it was good for me to be forced to look at the same topic but in a different way. What was great about this assignment is that Lilla supplied a color palette to work with. I tend to gravitate towards similar colors. Lilla's palette was fresh for me and I welcomed the change and I'm really glad to hear she'll be providing optional color palettes for the entire 6 months of the class. I plan on using them as a way to stretch me outside of my comfort zone.
For the first week we were just encouraged to create clocks. So that's what I did! I had a lot of fun making the little people and doodling details, scanning them in, and turning them to vector bits and bobs. The second week brought on the final assignment, which was to create a phone case. I realized the many pieces I had done so far could be combined into one epic clock. Well, epic in my mind!!! So I took my favorite elements from each and brought them into a new clock, and then went to collage.
Here is my sketch:
And here is my final:
I had to ditch the rooster along the way. I love him, but he didn't work once I moved on to color. C'est la vie. I'm sure i'll bring him into something else soon!
And here is the file that I submitted, showing my artwork, the colors, and the phone case mock up:
Month 2 has already begun, and the mini assignment is JELLO! More on that to come…
